The new Africa restaurant is now open (late 2013). The food comprises a choice of main courses, served with the usual bread, salad, tahini, rice, vegetables, etc., and with a small dessert. LE65 is quite high, but the location is now very good. There are toilets on both floors, and the stairs to the roof are even, with a good handrail. They ran out of red wine last time I was there as they are trying to carry a small a stock as possible. (2013).
(Historical notes) This second floor roof-top restaurant at the western corner of the riverside square in Gezira offers local beer and wine, as well as a standard menu of chicken, meat or fish served with bread, salad, tahini, vegetables, rice and chips. It seems to have gone downhill recently (2009), but is still good at lunchtime for a cheap meal with a great river view. In the evening the view is spoilt by the street lighting between the river and the restaurant. The toilets are clean, but on the first floor.
Later reports (Sept 2011) are that the standard has now improved, so well worth another visit, but I was disappointed in December 2011. The main courses were somewhat greasy, as was the rice, and LE55 seems slightly expensive. The chips have been replaced with an oven-baked potato dish, and fried aubergines and a small dessert is included.
In 2013 Africa are building a new restaurant even closer to the ferry. The outline has been built so the building could be in use later this year. It is just to the west of Nile Valley.
