This garden restaurant/bar in the grounds of the Luxor Wena hotel on Temple Street is very close to the entrance to Luxor temple on a stretch of dual carriageway frequented by caleches and taxis. I include it here as even those who stay on the west bank occasionally visit Luxor, and this is one of the cheapest place for a Stella beer (£E8 + 22% taxes). It serves a reasonable menu of snacks and meals, and a full range of non-alcoholic drinks. Below I include the menu in early 2011.
Menu, March 2011
Prices have risen, particularly on alcohol, mainly due to tax hikes. In 2013 a Stella was net LE10 (gross LE12.5) and in autumn 2014 it was raised again to LE13 (LE16). More worrying is that beer has not always been available in Autumn 2014, and is not listed on the road-side menu board. This may be a licensing problem, but I hope that it is soon resolved.
Another downside is the somewhat intrusive clamour by several staff or dealers to exchange currency at slightly better than bank-rate, and to buy from neighbouring stalls. But even when also weighing in the poor quality of the toilet Sindbad's will remain popular because of its value and location. The trees at the front have been trimmed, enhancing the view of the temple.
